Project Afternight Versus Modes

Project: Afternight is a hangout island that becomes a fight the moment two people sit on the same speaker. Modes are solo, 1v1, 2v2, and 4v4. This page is how to queue without donating your combo to a joke chart. Learn the buttons in Getting Started and How to Play first.

How a versus set starts

Walk to a stage, press E, pick the versus option. Invite a friend or wait. Both sides nominate a song and difficulty. Older public coverage described a 50/50 roll between the two picks. Live patches also let you leave the stage if you hate the result; the other player keeps the chart as if you never sat down. That leave option arrived with the Classic Resurrections quality-of-life pass. Use it. Pride is not a modifier that raises accuracy.

You can still meet shop requirements in versus if you hit the 70% / 1x / modchart checklist. You can also get a 40-second argument about whether Talladega on God Mode is “fair.” Solo exists. Shop unlocks will still be there after a calm bot match.

Project Afternight gameplay — POWERDOWN and DEMISE versus a heavy chart

1v1 versus 2v2 versus 4v4

• 1v1 is readable. Two HUDs, two egos, one chart.
• 2v2 is noise. You share a side. A teammate’s miss does not have to be your miss, but the visual clutter is real. Drop notesplashes and camera shake. Settings.
• 4v4 is a clip farm. Great for showcasing an event animation. Terrible for a first FC. If the server is a music club, treat 4v4 as entertainment, not accuracy homework.

Bots can fill empty slots depending on the room. Official bot costumes are a settings feature — use those instead of injecting autoplay into a public 1v1 unless you enjoy kicks and reports. Script safety is blunt about versus execute timing.

Picking songs without being that player

If you are hosting:

• Start on a chart both clients can read. Song tiers and mods help.
• Announce mania keys in chat. 9-key without warning is how people leave.
• Do not stack Fade In + Inverse Notes on a stranger’s first song. Save stacks for modifiers badge hunts with friends.

If you are joining:

• Read the tab name before you sit.
• Leave if the pick is a jumpscare file and you have flashes off for a reason.
• Your equipped animation is visible. Heavy event anims can hide notes. Equip something readable.

Scoring and etiquette

Versus compares accuracy and misses more than a story mode stars system. A win with 71% against someone’s 90% is still a win on the scoreboard and still a weak shop farm if you needed 70% with a specific modifier off. Play for the toast you wanted.

Chat is optional. Voice is not supported on the Roblox listing. If someone is using autoplay, you will notice the perfect mash on a chart they cannot sightread. You can leave. You do not need to lecture. If you are the one autoplaying, you are why this paragraph exists.

Performance in a full server

40-player instances plus a heavy background plus four animation rigs is a frame-time bomb. Extras off, particles down, splashes down. Bloxstrap FPS caps help; they are not cheats. If the chart stutters only in 4v4, the island is the problem, not your binds. Controls will not fix a 40 FPS Demise.

After the set

Open the shop if you passed a requirement. Open updates if the opponent showed a tab you have never seen — Eye of Corruption added files people will pick without warning. Then either queue another readable 1v1 or go back to solo and actually FC something.

Scoring rebalance (Eye of Corruption)

The August 2026 event copy lists a scoring rebalance for fairer PvP and higher highscores. That is not a new mode. It is a number tweak. Your old “I always beat this lobby at 82%” memory may be stale. Recalibrate on a file you already know in solo, then 1v1. Shop still wants 70% at 1x unless a tooltip moved — how rewards work. Versus is the social half of PAFN. It is not the tutorial. Sit down when you can already hold combo on Normal, and stand up when the pick is a meme.
