Project Afternight Custom Icons
Fifty unique FCs, a Psych-style strip, and a health bar that actually looks like you.
Custom icons are the closest Project: Afternight gets to a created character. They are not a Robux UGC item. They unlock when you Full Combo 50 unique songs, then upload a strip that follows Psych Engine conventions. If you are still hunting 70% shop toasts, finish accuracy and FC first. Packs you unlock rather than upload still live in shop unlocks.
The 50 FC gate
Unique songs, not 50 retries of Tutorial. Difficulty can be Easy; the engine still wants fifty different titles. Keep a list. Versus FCs count if the result screen shows the FC — do not trust a script that never writes combo. Autoplay is a common way to think you are done when you are not.
When the gate opens, the shop/custom icon UI lets you upload. If it does not, you are short on unique titles or a patch moved the button — check updates and Discord rather than a codes blog.
The image spec
Funkipedia and community templates describe a Neutral / Losing / Winning strip, 150×150 to 450×150. That is three 150×150 faces in a row at the small end, up to three 150×150-equivalent cells at the large end. Stay rectangular. Do not upload a random 512 avatar and hope the health bar crops it kindly.
Chaotix linked rating/combo/icon templates (PSD included) from the settings video description. Use a template if you cannot eyeball three faces. Transparent backgrounds help. Loud outlines read better on both the sunny island and a black horror stage.
Winning and losing states should be obvious at HUD scale. A tiny grin change will vanish in 4v4 clutter. Think game icon, not illustration.
Upload hygiene
- Keep file size reasonable. This is a HUD sprite, not a wallpaper.
- Do not steal another player’s strip and reupload it as a joke unless you want that drama in Discord.
- NSFW or gore faces will get you reported. The game already has enough content warnings.
- After upload, play a song and watch the health bar at full, mid, and dying. If the losing face never appears, your strip order is wrong.
Icons versus animations versus tags
Icons are the faces. Animations are the body. Tags are the nameplate. You can mix all three. Custom icons do not replace the need to unlock a body you like. They also do not grant extra accuracy. They are pride.
If you only want a premade pack, beat the tab and equip it. That is faster than 50 FCs and is the intended path for 99% of players. Custom is for people who already finished How to Play a long time ago.
A farm that does not melt your brain
Use S/A-tier songs from the song tier list. Original weeks, calm OSTs, and Easy/Normal versions still count. Mania FCs are optional flex, not an efficient unique-song counter. One new unique Easy FC per session is a finish line you will actually hit.
Shop-search “icon” after patches; some packs are still play-to-unlock rather than upload. Eye of Corruption and older drops both added icon rows. The mods hub explains how characters relate to those rows.
When the strip is live, screenshot it once. Clients reset cosmetics more often than anyone wants to admit. Re-upload beats re-drawing.
Custom icons are a diploma. They are not a shortcut around how rewards work. Fifty FCs is the point.
